Born on 8 October, 1945.
Musically influenced early by his family. His father, Leopold Katt, was himself a composer and director of the music school in Mauterndorf.

Studied composition under Prof. Dr. Alfred Uhl at the Academy of Music in Vienna. Organist at the monastery Stift Heiligenkreuz, and taught music for many years. Since 1989 he has devoted his time to composing.

By creating the whimsical Baroque figure of F.X.Frenzel at the monastery Stift Heiligenkreuz, it was possible for Katt to free himself from academic restraints in good time and to write his music independent from stylistic rules.

He has written numerous works for orchestra and chamber music in various instrumentations. Operas, musicals, film music. Available on LPs and CDs.
